Acne vulgaris is a common skin disorder of the pilosebaceous unit which has a chronic course. It may present as a comedone(non-inflammatory) or as a papule, pustule, nodule or cyst (inflammatory). Most commonly it affects the face but it can also involve the trunk, back, shoulders and arms.
The common belief that acne can only present in adolescent age group should better be disregarded as it can present in any age group. The sequalae to acne is hyperpigmentation, redness, scarring, facial disfigurement or even psychological distress hence it is always better to treat it early.
